The Mihelič Gallery will host two exhibitions this year, namely a large spatial installation by Swiss artist Claude Kübler REGOLITH II, and the second part of the group thematic exhibition PRAH / DUST.
A rounded gallery room is completely covered with hand-cast slabs of plaster, which break with a loud cracking sound under the weight of visitors as they make their own way in the room at the vernissage, and the pops and grind continue. The installation radically transforms during the entire duration of the exhibition and is lit solely by a pink and dark blue neon drawing. The title, ‘Regolith’, taken from weathering processes in geology, describes here a quasi-geomorphological process in fast motion.
Claudia Kübler razglasi čas za svoj material, pri čemer skozi različne medije raziskuje fenomen četrte dimenzije – njene procese, potenciale in konflikte, vključno z našim razumevanjem in nerazumevanjem časa. Trajanje, propad, begavost, vztrajnost, elastičnost, cikli in transformacija so pomembni vidiki njene preokupacije.
Claudia Kübler declares time to be her material, exploring through different media the phenomenon of the fourth dimension – its processes, potentials and conflicts, including our comprehension and incomprehension of time. Duration, collapse, fugaciousness, persistence, elasticity, cycles and transformation are important aspects of her preoccupation. Currently, she focuses on the concept of ‚deep time‘, which describes ultra-slow time processes that go beyond a human time horizon to the planetary and the geological, a supra-human time. Kübler questions in which time dimensions we are capable of thinking, how linearity can be undermined and what potential lies in the perception of deep time.

„Prah si in v prah se boš vrnil“ je primeren začetek in konec od nastanka človeštva. V tem filmu umetnost, material in koža postanejo skladišča časa, spomina, potenciala in človeškega delovanja. Marek Schovanek, češko-kanadski umetnik, evocira človeški obstoj z ustvarjanjem sodobnega mozaika dobe antropocena.

“Dust you are and to dust you shall return” is a fitting beginning and ending from the origin of humanity. In this film, art, material and skin become repositories of time, memory, potential and human action. The film, which has been created, interpreted, read, used and manipulated in various ways by numerous international artists, is presented in various forms, chosen precisely for their uniqueness or mutual correspondence. Among them in the Mihelič Gallery: Claudia Kübler presents the installation Regolith, which reflects a rapid geomorphic process and requires active participation from the viewer; Gabriele Picco, an Italian artist and writer who empties bags of memories and stories trapped in the void and creates paintings from this dust; and Tomáš Koudela, a Czech artist whose conceptual message is captured in the words “Nowhere to go, still I walk” and “Everything is in motion”. Italian artist Serena Vestrucci paints canvases with cosmetics and offers an ambivalent reading: they are created with makeup and give the impression that we are seeing a space that is not in reality. Liza Libenko from the Czech Republic depicts melancholy and decadence as a thin line between life and death. In contrast, Paolo San Martín from Chile uses a provocative pop language that makes us laugh. Marek Schovanek, a Czech-Canadian artist, evokes human existence by creating a contemporary mosaic of the Anthropocene era.
